Microsoft WHQL postpones date that systems must pass audio fidelity tests
On August 30, Microsoft's WHQL group announced that systems will not be required to pass the audio fidelity portion of the logo tests until June 1st, 2007. However, all submissions must include complete logs from the audio fidelity tests, which requires an Audio Precision System 2 test set to be connected to the DTM test environment. There is no corresponding announcement for audio device logo testing, but the WLP 3.06 documents do indicate that similar requirements for audio device submissions have also been postponed.
NOTE: The WLP 3.07 documents have reversed this requirement for audio devices and drivers. Only complete systems are exempt from this requirement, and then only until June 1, 2007. For more on this subject, click here .
The Microsoft Hardware Newsletter Special Edition for August 31, 2006 stated the following:
Based on feedback from our OEM partners Microsoft has extended the date to June 1, 2007 for enforcement of the Audio Fidelity tests (SYSFUND-0118 and SYSFUND-0127). This extension will give our OEM partners ample opportunity to prepare for these requirements, while still making systems available with the Windows Vista logo (Premium or Basic) at Windows Vista product launch. System submissions before June 1, 2007 will still be required to contain audio fidelity test log results, however the test logs are not required to pass at this time.
This policy applies to Windows Vista Logo Program system submissions. Test logs for system submissions are generated by using the Windows Driver Test Manager (DTM) running on Windows Vista client SKUs*. The relevant Windows Logo Program v3.0 requirements are SYSFUND-0118(Premium) and SYSFUND-0127 (Basic).
Timeframe: This policy is effective when the Windows Vista Logo Program opens at Windows Vista RC1 and continues through June 1, 2007
Microsoft has posted a policy page at http://www.microsoft.com/whdc/whql/audiofidelity.mspx which provides additional details on the requirements to run audio fidelity system logo tests. ( Click here for Japanese version).
While not noted on this Microsoft web page, audio devices must meet similar requirements specified in [AUD-0006] (premium logo for desktops and notebooks) and [AUD-0025] (standard logo for all types of systems).
